A 20-24

Chapter 20
I thought with a sensation of madness on

my promise of creating another like to him, and

trembling with passion, tore to pieces the thing

on which I was engaged.

Chapter 21
I was unable to pursue the train of thought;

a thousand feelings pressed upon me,

and I wept bitterly.

Chapter 22
The sun sank beneath the horizon as we landed,

and as I touched the shore I felt

those cares and fears revive which soon were to

clasp me and cling to me forever.

Chapter 23 Nothing is so painful to the human mind

as a great and sudden change

Chapter 24 Seek happiness in tranquility, and avoid

ambition, even if it be only the apparently innocent

one of distinguishing yourself in science discoveries.
